LSC Concludes Spring 2009 League Play with Three Top-place Finishes
Thursday, 02 July 2009

Three Lightning Soccer Club (LSC) teams came out on top and four teams finished second in their respective divisions in the Granite State Soccer League this spring, the best showing by Lightning Soccer in its 26 year history. Late winter, LSC brought on several new professional coaches to further enhance the club’s coaching staff, including Charles Mhluari, the former Head Coach for the Zimbabwe Men’s National Team.  “We are thrilled to have such a diverse and talented coaching staff. The addition of Charles as Director of Coaching, with his extensive experience on the international stage at both the youth and professional levels, has been a tremendous asset for the club this spring” says Kris Graham, President Lightning Soccer Club.

Dear Lightning Community,

We are very excited to announce that Charles Mhlauri will be joining Lightning as our Director of Coaching starting March 11th. Charles will be working closely with Mike Doherty and Kris Graham who will help him learn the ropes of the Lightning organization.

This is an incredible opportunity for Lightning. He holds the most advanced coaching degree in Germany and has worked with some of the top clubs there, such as Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen, training both senior and junior players. In addition to his work on the national team and in youth programs, he has coached and produced some of the top players in the English Premier League, like Benjani Mwaruwari (Manchester City), Peter Ndlovu (Coventry F.C., Sheffield F.C., Birmingham City FC). Most recently Charles has been assisting at Wesleyan University and working in the US at various elite camps.

The 2nd annual Lightning Soccer Club Lose-the-Shoes Tournament was held on Friday, June 12, 2009.  Over 75 LSC players and their families enjoyed very fun 3 v 3 games, a barbeque, and a beautiful summer evening at Huntley Meadows in Norwich, VT.  Teams of 3 - 5 players competed in three divisions with the Brigham Family (John, Ryan, and Kelly) placing first in the Family Division, B.R.E.D.D. United (Duncan Piper, Rocco Lin, Brendan Barth, Dan Hazlett, and Evan Greenwald) capturing the U15 title, and J Cubed Plus 1 (Jules Evans, Josh Wallace, Jackson Greenspan, and Cian Kelly) taking home the win for the U12s.   The event raised over $600 for the LSC Bobby Clark Scholarship Fund with Grassroot Soccer generously donating soccer balls and bags as prizes.
