Head Coaching Staff

Charles Mhlauri – Managing Director
Charles Mhlauri is the Managing Director of Lightning Soccer Club.  He is the former head coach of the Zimbabwe National Team, participating in the World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations Games. He holds the most advanced coaching degree in Germany and has worked with some of the top German clubs, including Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen, training both senior and junior players. In addition to his work on the national team and in youth programs, he has coached and produced some of the top players in the English Premier League, such as Benjani Mwaruwari (Manchester City), and Peter Ndlovu (Coventry F.C., Sheffield F.C., Birmingham City FC). Most recently Charles worked at camps at Bowdoin College, WesleyanUniversity, Yale University, Dartmouth College, and Franklin Pierce University. In 2008, Charles was named Ambassador for Grass Roots Soccer, an international non-profit organization that provides African youth with the knowledge, life skills, and support to live HIV-free through the game of soccer.

 

Cindy Bennett
Cindy Bennett is a Region 1 ODP (Olympic Development Program) staff coach, and works with both the Colby-Sawyer and Dartmouth College women’s teams as an assistant coach. She holds a NSCAA Advanced National Diploma as well as certification from the NSCAA Goalkeeping Institute. Prior to moving to the Upper Valley Cindy was an assistant coach at University of Virginia and at her alma mater, Stony Brook University. In her playing career, Cindy was a goalkeeper for the Division 1 Stony Brook team where she was awarded Rookie of the Year and Goalkeeper of the Year for the America East Conference. After college Cindy played semi-professionally with the Long Island Lady Riders, the New York Magic and the Hampton Road Piranhas. In 2004, Cindy was part of the United States U-21 National Team camp. 

Chantelle Blair
Chantelle has been a coach for Lightning since 2008. In addition, she has coached at College of Saint Elizabeth's camps for  U10-U15s. Her playing career includes playing at the College of Saint Elizabeth where she was a four-year starter and MVP as well as the captain both her junior and senior years. She led her team to the the 2004 Hudson Valley Woman's Athletic Conference Championships where they placed second. She received the first team nationwide award from the Association of DIII Independents and the Womens' Intercollegiate Athletic Conference All Star team award in 2004. Chantelle was also chosen for the HVWAC All Conference First Team in 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007. Prior to college Chantelle was a four-year letter winner for Lebanon High School from 2000-2004, two-year MVP and was team captain as a senior. From 1996-2004 she played midfield/forward for the Olympic Development Program (ODP). Chantelle's club career started in 1995 with the Bedford Spirit where after one year she transferred to MISL Attack and continued playing competitively from 1996-2004. During 2001, she played for the Boston Renegades U-16 semi-professional women's team. 

Shannon Boisvert
Shannon has been the Varsity girl’s soccer coach at Lebanon High School for the past 5 years. Before coaching for Lebanon she was the assistant coach at Colby Sawyer College and held varsity coaching positions at Randolph High School and at Sunapee High School, where she was awarded Co-Coach of the year in NH in 1998. Shannon was a standout player at Lebanon High School where she was a four-year varsity starter and team captain her senior year. She went on to play at Becker College in Worcester, MA where she was named to the All New England Team in 19991

Rick Bourdon
Rick has over 25 years of experience coaching youth soccer and holds a USSF National “C” License. He coached premier youth soccer for 18 years for the Fort Collins Soccer Club in Colorado from 1983-2001. For the past 5 years since moving to the Upper Valley, Rick has coached Lightning teams nearly every spring and fall season, ranging from U11 Girls to U18 Boys. He assisted Rob Grabill this fall with the Hanover High varsity boys team in their successful bid for their 5th state championship. In addition to being an experienced competitive soccer player and coach, Rick is the parent of four very successful soccer players, including two alums of the DIII powerhouse Middlebury College men’s team, and a varsity goalkeeper for the Dartmouth DI women’s team. Rick is particularly experienced in developing youth soccer players to compete at the varsity and collegiate level.   

John Brigham
John played striker and midfielder for the University of Massachusetts Division 1 soccer team (2 year letter winner, 1980 & 1983). He went on to coach the U Mass JV Men’s team in 1984. He reports with humor that his highlight win that season was a 1-0 victory over his "safety school," Harvard. A three-year Varsity player in high school and captain his senior year, John credits his high school coach, Leo Williams, for inspiring his lifelong love of the game. Since moving to Norwich, VT with his wife Deanna (also a Lightning head coach) and their three children, John has coached Lightning soccer for six years (both boys' and girls' sides) and was Norwich Recreation soccer coach for five years.

Chris Cheney
Chris Cheney is head coach of the boys' varsity soccer team at Kimball Union Academy in Meriden, NH. In his four seasons at KUA, Chris has led his team to the school’s first-ever New England Class B Championship in soccer (2008) and to the Lakes Region Championship title three times (2008, 2009, 2010). Prior to coaching at KUA, Chris was head coach of the boy’s varsity soccer team at Hanover High School in Hanover, New Hampshire where he led his team to the Class I State Championship in 2005 and was awarded the NH Coach of the Year in 2004. Chris has served as an assistant coach at Harvard University, Dartmouth College, and Wesleyan University for their European and Argentina tours. Chris has coached several State Cup Finalist Lightning Soccer Club teams. He is President of the New England Prep School Soccer Association, and holds both the NSCAA National and Advanced National Diplomas. 

Aaron Cinquemani
Aaron is a Lightning lifer. He competed as a Lightning athlete from U-9 all the way through U-18 under coach Rob Grabill. A four-year letter winner starting as a freshman for Rob Johnstone at Lebanon in the late 90’s, Aaron also was selected to be an Olympic Development Program (ODP) midfielder in N.H. for two years. He went on to play at Colby-Sawyer College for four years and was a captain in 2004. While in the Commonwealth Coast Conference he was recognized for many awards: Commonwealth Coast Conference Rookie of the year in 2001; 1st team all C.C. Conference 2002, 2004; 2nd team all C.C Conference 2001, 2003; NSCAA All New England 2002, 2004; NEISL All Star 2004. In addition, he received Athletic/Academic High Honors for four consecutive seasons while in college. As a coach, his experience includes: J.V. coach at Indian Mtn. School in Lakeville, CT; assistant coach for U-12 and U-15 Lightning squads over the past two years; current coach of the Lebanon High School boys reserve soccer team. Aaron holds a Masters in Education and is a certified sixth grade teacher in West Lebanon, N.H.

Jeff Cook
Jeff Cook just completed his 9th season as the head coach for the men’s soccer team at Dartmouth College. Jeff has led Dartmouth to four Ivy League Championships and four NCAA Division I Tournaments since his arrival in 2001. During Jeff’s eight years at Dartmouth, his players have received All-Ivy recognition 40 times, including 14 first team selections. Prior to taking over at Dartmouth, Jeff was the head coach at the University of Cincinnati from 1996-2000. He was named the 1997 Conference USA Coach of the Year and led the Bearcats to the school’s first NCAA berth in 1998 and a national ranking as high as 15th in 1999. Jeff holds a UEFA ‘A’ license, which he obtained in June of 2005 from the Scottish Football Association. He also holds a U.S. Soccer ‘A’ license and the NSCAA Advanced National Diploma.

Deanna Denault
Deanna Denault was a four-year varsity starter and senior captain of the University of Massachusetts Division I women's soccer team. Deanna helped lead her team to two NCAA Final Four appearances starting in 1982, the first year women’s soccer held a national championship. Deanna has played with and against some of the top US women’s soccer players, including Soccer Hall of Fame Michelle Akers, and former US Women’s National Team coach and captain, April Heinrichs.

Mike Doherty
Mike Doherty is the former men’s head coach at Colgate University. During his 20 years as head coach, Mike was named the Lanzera National Coach of the Year, the Patriot League Coach of the Year, and earned two NSCAA Regional Coach of the Year honors. He also captured two Howard Hartman Awards as Colgate’s coach of the year. Mike coached an All-American, nine first-team all-region players, 28 first-team all-Patriot League selections, and one Patriot League Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year, two Rookies of the Year, and two tournament MVPs. As the former Managing Director of the Lightning Soccer Club, Mike helped build the club to compete at the state and regional levels in numbers not seen before by the club, sending two teams to the Region 1 Championships. Mike serves as the Associate Director of Admissions at Kimball Union Academy in Meriden, NH.

Corson Fidler
Corson Fidler coaches the girls' JV team at Kimball Union Academy in Meriden, NH. He played Division III college soccer at Hobart College and during his sophomore year helped the team make a post-season run in the NCAA Division III Playoffs. Prior to that he played prep school soccer at Groton School, where he started as a defender for two years and helped lead Groton to a runner-up finish in the NEPSAC Class C Tournament in 2004. After graduating from Groton, Corson coached for Massachusetts Premier Soccer, an organization that runs soccer clinics throughout the state. Corson is also a USSF Certified Grade 8 Referee and is currently working on upgrading to Grade 7.  He has refereed at both the youth recreational and collegiate level.

Trevor Gorman
Trevor has been an assistant coach for Dartmouth College men’s varsity team since 2007. He holds a NSCAA Premier Diploma. Prior to coaching at Dartmouth, Trevor coached for both the Triangle United Soccer Club and the Sanford Area Soccer League while pursuing his master’s degree in sports administration at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill. Trevor has coached at numerous college soccer camps as well, including Penn State, Clemson, UNC and Dartmouth. Trevor played for the Division I Penn State University men’s team from 2002-05, where his father, the renowned coach Barry Gorman, is head coach.

Rob Grabill
Rob Grabill has been part of Lightning Soccer Club since he moved to Hanover in 1990. He has coached dozens of teams over the years. 2009 was his fourth year as head coach for the boy’s varsity soccer team at Hanover High School in Hanover, NH. Under Rob’s leadership, the Hanover boys’ team has captured four consecutive Class I State Championships. In 2008 Rob was named Class I Coach of the Year, and in 2007 he won the New England Division II Coach of the Year Award, voted by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. When he first moved to the Upper Valley Rob worked with the Dartmouth men’s soccer program for six years as the Freshman Coach and another eight years as a volunteer assistant. Prior to his time in Hanover, Rob was Head Coach at New Hampshire College (now Southern NH University) where he built a program that was nationally ranked and made two NCAA appearances. While at NH College Rob was named New England Division II Coach of the Year three times and NSCAA Regional Coach of the Year in 1987. Rob is currently the Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director of the Windridge Tennis and Sports Camps, two residential co-ed camps in Vermont that draw some of the top youth players from across the country and beyond.

Rob Johnstone
Rob Johnstone has been the varsity boys’ soccer coach at Lebanon High School for the past 17 seasons. Rob was voted Class I Coach of the Year following the 1998 season, has twice been named to the New Hampshire coaching staff for the annual Lion’s Twin State Soccer Cup match with Vermont (1999, 2008), and his teams have been recognized with the Class I Sportsmanship Award on four occasions. Rob played soccer for four years at Middlebury College, graduating in 1988 with a B.A. in Religion. In the spring of 1988, Rob was the recipient of the Mike Wilson Trophy, presented annually to the Middlebury College athlete who, “while overcoming personal challenge, has shown such spirit, enthusiasm and unselfish devotion to the members of the team that is has been an inspiration in creating team morale.” Rob holds the NSCAA’s National, Advanced National, and Premier Diplomas.

Doug Kennedy
Doug Kennedy has been the head coach for the girl’s varsity soccer team at Hanover High School since 2008. He holds a USYS NHSA "E" License and a NSCAA Regional Diploma. For over 20 years, Doug has been involved in soccer in the Upper Valley; he has been a head coach for Lightning teams ranging from U8 to U16, was a board member for Lightning Soccer Club for 11 years and also coached for Hanover and Norwich Recreation programs from 1985-2007. Doug is a graduate of Middlebury College and University of Pennsylvania and is a consultant in real estate development throughout North America with focus on mountain (ski) resorts.

Jane LeMasurier
Jane LeMasurier is a former assistant coach at Middlebury College where she worked with both the women’s varsity and JV squads. Jane helped coach the varsity team to the NESCAC semi-finals in 2008. In 2007 she guided the Middlebury JV team to a 6-0-0 record. Prior to working at Middlebury, Jane played on the University of Vermont’s women’s club team and helped lead the team to Club Nationals in 2003. Jane is also an accomplished alpine ski racer and coach who has competed at the FIS and Nor Am level as well as coached college level and elite academy racers.
 
Nick Lincoln
Nick is a Lightning Soccer Club graduate and successful collegiate player we are lucky to have "home" for a semester. A two-time all-state player at Thetford Academy, he transferred to Kimball Union Academy as a junior and helped KUA capture the 2007 New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) Class B Championship. He was named a first team All-Lakes Region player both his junior and senior seasons, and as a senior co-captain was named a New England Prep School all-star and selected to The Boston Globe Prep All-Scholastic team. Fall 2009 he played D-1 soccer at Valparaiso University in Indiana, appearing in 11 games and starting 8 as a freshman, including matches against nationally ranked Michigan (#24), Michigan State (#23) and South Florida (#8). He is taking the spring semester off and plans to transfer to a school closer to home, where he will study business and play soccer again next fall.
 
Nolan Lincoln
Nolan is pleased to be working with Lightning SC, having played for the club while growing up in the Upper Valley. He was an All-State player at Thetford Academy before transferring to Hanover High School, where he was named All-State for two years and served as co-captain his senior year. After graduating early, he spent four months in New Zealand, where he played for Western Suburbs and coached U-11 and U-12 boys teams. As a post-graduate at Choate Rosemary Hall, Nolan was named to the New England Prep-School All-Star Team. He recently graduated from Middlebury College, where he was a four-year member of the men’s varsity soccer team. In 2007, Middlebury won the NESCAC title before going on to win the D-III National Championship. This past fall, Nolan served as co-captain and was honored with the NESCAC Sportsmanship Award. He has worked at numerous summer soccer camps at Dartmouth, Middlebury, and Wesleyan, coaching players aged 6-18.

Molly Luft
Molly Luft grew up playing soccer in Portland, Oregon. She was a 4-year letter winner at Lincoln High and played club soccer with both Portland City United and the Oregon City Hurricanes.  She headed east for college playing 4 years of Division I soccer at Lehigh University where she served as a two-year captain. After graduating from Lehigh she worked in Nicaragua with Soccer Without Borders working to provide opportunities for girls to play soccer. This fall she assisted both the JV and Varsity girls' programs at Hanover High School in Hanover, NH.  Molly serves as an AmeriCorps Member at COVER Home Repair in White River Junction, providing weatherization and home repair to low income Upper Valley residents.

Stewart Yaguda
Stew Yaguda has been the Hanover High JV girls’ coach since 2008. In his first two seasons as head coach his team has gone 28-0. Stew has also been a Lightning coach for six seasons and coached the Hanover 7th/8th grade team for 9 years.  Prior to moving to the Upper Valley he coached girls' soccer in Montclair, NJ where he coached a Montclair United Soccer travel team for two seasons.  Stew has earned soccer coaching licenses from USYSA and NSCAA. He has been involved in soccer for over 40 years, when he began playing for his high school team when he was in 7th grade.
