πŸ‘₯ Age Group Information

Beginning this year, US Soccer is transitioning age group formation to a grade-based structure rather than birth-year registration. Both NHSL and NECSL are moving to this model, and Lightning SC will follow the same structure.

This shift allows us to:

  • Create stronger peer group alignment

  • Increase flexibility and movement between teams

  • Provide more opportunities for players to train and compete in the most challenging and developmentally appropriate environment

Specific grade breakdowns and team placements will be communicated clearly during the tryout process. In the meantime, you can already look at the table and use the age group calculator.

We aim to identify players not just for their current level, but for their long-term developmental potential within Lightning SC.

πŸŽ’ How to Prepare for Tryouts

To give yourself the best opportunity:

  • Arrive 30 minutes early

  • Wear black training gear (no club-specific uniforms required)

  • Get proper rest the night before

  • Hydrate throughout the day

  • Come ready to compete, communicate, and support others

Most importantly, be confident and play your game. We want players to express themselves and show their personality on the field.
